Classical Verses Conventional Track
WriteAtHome offers two tracks for the study of high school literature: classical and conventional. Either program offers a robust and engaging learning experience. WriteAtHome literature courses are 32-week annual courses.
In literature, the classical track is a chronological study of the Great Books of Western Civilization, from the poetry and drama of Ancient Greece and Rome through classic works of the 20th century.
The conventional track includes many of the same great works of literature and covers the same history, but the courses are organized according to the conventions of typical high school English courses.
Classical Track
Subjects are taught chronologically, beginning with ancient Greece.
Literature: Focus on great books of the Western world and historical events from Western civilization.
Our high school classical track literature classes focus on the Great Books of Western civilization—books like The Iliad, The Inferno, Hamlet, and Moby Dick. Books most of us have heard of, but too few of us have actually read.
Conventional Track
Subjects follow the organizational structure common in high schools today.
Literature: Introduction to literature provides an overview of literary concepts, and ensuing classes are organized by region.
Our high school conventional track literature courses include many great works of literature, and the courses are organized according to the conventions of typical high school English curriculum.
